Spotlight on the Final Wellbeing Warriors

November Wellbeing Warrior: Brittney Champagne

This November, we’re celebrating Brittney Champagne for her incredible dedication to health, resilience, and personal growth.

ree

Brittney’s journey began in September of last year when she was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a condition that initially left her with severe muscle weakness and even the inability to move her face. Since then, she’s committed to rebuilding her health from the ground up. Working closely with her doctor, Brittney focused on nutrition, monitoring deficiencies, and gradually regaining strength through physical therapy.

Her perseverance paid off—she not only returned to her favorite run/walk routine but completed the Wine and Dine 10K at Disney World, setting a personal record! Continuing her fitness journey, she recently joined a local Burn Bootcamp and is now training for her first Half Marathon in 2026. Along the way, Brittney has learned to truly listen to her body, saying, “When it’s tired, I need to stop; when it’s hungry, it’s important to fuel properly.” She has also celebrated 50 pounds lost without focusing solely on weight.

Beyond her physical accomplishments, Brittney embraces the movement and mindfulness resources offered by Serco Wellness, including meditation practices that help her stay grounded. She also highlights the support of her Serco Women’s Mentor, who has guided her gratitude journey: “My mentor has been an incredible influence, encouraging me to focus on what I can control and to celebrate progress during a season of change and uncertainty.”

Her story is a powerful reminder that resilience, consistency, and self-compassion are key to wellbeing. Congratulations, Brittney!

December Wellbeing Warrior: Michelle Cantu

This December, we’re proud to celebrate Michelle Cantu for her incredible dedication to both financial and physical wellbeing, resilience, and personal growth.

This year, Michelle focused on building long-term financial security while planning for her children’s future. She began her Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification, applied professional strategies to her personal finances, and stayed disciplined through budgeting and intentional decision-making. Even starting midway through the year, she caught up on all retirement and investment contributions—adapting through challenges like the government shutdown, unexpected family changes, and community shifts. Michelle shares, “I learned to balance consistency with flexibility, giving myself rest when needed and trusting the structure I built to help me catch up.”

ree

Michelle’s dedication extended to her physical health as well. Despite extreme heat and humidity in Okinawa and the responsibilities of parenting during her husband’s deployment, she maintained a consistent running routine. That commitment led to an unexpected but incredible milestone: signing up for and completing a half marathon just one week before the race. She recalls, “Even with the nerves at the starting line, I showed up, committed, and finished strong. Crossing that finish line with my kids cheering for me felt like a huge personal win and a reminder that I’m capable of more than I give myself credit for.”

Michelle credits her success to a combination of discipline, consistency, and smart use of tools—from tracking her runs and heart rate with her Apple Watch to leveraging financial apps and CFP materials for her financial planning. These resources, paired with her focus on mindfulness, nutrition, and hydration, helped her stay on track and maintain overall wellbeing.

Beyond her own achievements, Michelle has shared the strategies she’s learned with peers, friends, and family, helping others take steps toward financial independence and healthier habits. Her story is a shining example of how commitment, resilience, and intentional choices can create meaningful personal growth while inspiring those around us.

Congratulations, Michelle, on being our December Wellbeing Warrior!

Seasonal Safety: Stay Alert During the Holidays

ree

As winter sets in, hazards like icy surfaces, poor lighting, and cluttered areas increase the risk of slips, trips, and falls. Incident trends also show fatigue and distraction during the holiday season—both can lead to serious injuries.

Stay proactive:

  • Conduct thorough pre-shift briefings to review site conditions and task-specific hazards.

  • Confirm rescue plans for high-risk activities such as elevated work or confined spaces.

  • Clear walkways, wear proper footwear, and allow time for breaks to maintain focus.

Safety doesn’t take a holiday— Think Safe, Work Safe, Home Safe!

Preventive Health: Stay Healthy During Cold and Flu Season

ree

As cooler weather settles in, cold and flu season becomes more active. Taking a few simple steps now can help you stay healthy, keep your energy up, and enjoy the season with confidence.

Ways to stay healthy this season:

  • Get vaccinated: The flu shot is the most effective way to prevent influenza and reduce the severity if you do get sick. Consider getting your vaccine early in the season to maximize protection.

  • Wash your hands frequently: Regular handwashing with soap and water is one of the simplest and most effective ways to stop the spread of germs.

  • Cover coughs and sneezes: Use a tissue or your elbow to cover coughs and sneezes.

  • Prioritize rest, nutrition, and hydration: A healthy lifestyle supports your immune system and keeps you feeling energized.

  • Keep your environment clean: Wipe down frequently touched surfaces, such as doorknobs, keyboards, and phones, to reduce the spread of germs.

  • Stay home if you’re sick: Avoid exposing coworkers, friends, and family by taking the time you need to rest and recover.

By incorporating these simple habits into your daily routine, you can protect your health, reduce your risk of illness, and stay energized throughout the season. Taking proactive steps now ensures you can enjoy the months ahead feeling your best, both at work and at home.
