DECEMBER 2024 WELLBEING WARRIOR
SUMA CHERUKURI
Suma Cherukuri’s journey to improved wellbeing is a testament to the power of starting small and staying consistent. She began by incorporating hour-long walks after work into her routine, using the time to unwind and enjoy some fresh air. These walks helped her establish a manageable exercise habit and set a goal of working out a few times a week. Over time, Suma took the next step by joining Orange Theory Fitness, where she introduced morning workouts into her schedule. Gradually, she built up her stamina and commitment, increasing her sessions to five times a week.
In addition to regular exercise, Suma made a conscious effort to adopt other healthy habits that support her overall wellbeing. She began drinking at least four liters of water daily, taking 10-minute walks after meals, and limiting screen time before bed to improve her sleep quality. These small changes added up, positively impacting her mood, energy levels, and focus.
What keeps Suma motivated is her ability to celebrate progress and stay open to trying new things. Whenever she hits a fitness milestone or gets bored, she adjusts her routine to keep things fresh and exciting. At Orange Theory, Suma found not only a challenging workout environment but also a supportive community. She connected with gym friends, and together they set short-term, realistic goals to encourage and push each other further.
Reflecting on her journey, Suma is proud of her progress. She’s successfully increased her fitness level, built endurance, and improved her energy and mood. Beyond physical changes, she’s also seen benefits in her mental health, managing stress more effectively through exercise and mindfulness practices.
Her journey highlights the importance of starting small, celebrating wins, and embracing the process rather than chasing perfection. Suma’s advice to others is simple: focus on gradual changes, find what works for you, and remember that every small step forward is a step toward better health and happiness.
Congratulations, Suma, on your hard work and dedication to your wellbeing journey! Your commitment and positive example are truly inspiring. Keep up the amazing work!

They enjoy dishes like homemade Chipotle bowls, Vietnamese pho, and a healthier chicken alfredo. Hydration has also become key, with increased water intake leading to clearer skin and fewer breakouts. She’s also made daily movement a priority, taking 30 to 45-minute walks after dinner, helping with digestion and boosting her energy, while enjoying the neighborhood scenery and cats.
Looking ahead, she’s setting future goals to join her friends in local D.C. runs. While she’s not a runner yet, her aim is to participate at her own pace, starting with a swift walk and working her way up to running one day.
Through her dedication to perfecting her form in the gym, making healthier choices in the kitchen, and embracing a balanced lifestyle, this Wellbeing Warrior is on a mission to feel her best—and inspire others to do the same. By consistently working towards progress, she’s proving that small, mindful actions can have a powerful impact on overall wellbeing.

Deidra Brown
Deidra has been focusing on her physical and mental wellbeing this year with the goal to be healthier for herself and better for her family, friends, colleagues, and employees.
Her journey began by taking a look at the habits that contributed to her becoming unhealthy and started making small, reachable goals:
-
Talk with her doctor
-
Remove sweets like cookies, candy, and soda from her diet
-
Stop late night snacking
-
Start walking for 20 minutes and eventually increase the time/duration
-
Take “Coffee Break” with colleagues two times per week by getting up and moving with colleagues.
Since Deidra started, she has not only lost 15 pounds, but also improved her nutrition, physical activity, and social connections. Despite challenging days, she stays motivated and positive to reach her goals. One tool that has been helpful for her is having a “Healthier Me” background on her phone!
Deidra shared “I am striving to just become a better and healthier me. I don't want to look or be like anyone else but want to be able to feel good in my own body. I am not looking for a certain number on the scale but just looking for that moment when I feel great inside and out. What may be right for one person may not be for me and I have accepted that."
Help us celebrate and recognize Deidra for all her efforts throughout her wellbeing journey!

APRIL 2024 WELLBEING WARRIOR
Claudia Cisneros
Congratulations to Claudia Cisneros for being named the Wellbeing Warrior for April!
Claudia’s journey to focus on her physical wellbeing began when she took the first step to join her husband at a powerlifting gym to try something new – and it has been the best decision for her. Not only did she hit her first major goal of consistency in the first six months, she has also made huge progress on her weightlifting goals and improved her strength. She started with doing regular body weight squats to then slowly being able to lift the 45lb bar with no added weight and now today being able to squat 155lbs 5 times for 3 sets! Claudia said “The right support and environment has also played a huge part and for that I am so grateful!”
In addition, she also shared that family is her motivation. She wants to show her kids that you can do just about anything you are willing to work hard for and stick to, but also show her daughter that being a healthy and strong woman is not determined by just a number on the scale.
Claudia said this has been so important for her because it is the first time that she started working out without the goal of weight loss. Instead, she is focusing on the creating new habits – going to the gym consistently and setting weightlifting goals – and now enjoys her time at the gym. She’s excited to see where she will be when she hits her next big goal of one year with strength training and powerlifting.
Congratulations Claudia on all that you have accomplished so far – and the many more milestones to come on your wellbeing journey!
