Safe Summer Fun

Summer Fun Blog

Warm weather brings summer vacations, grilling and picnics, sunshine and so much more. As we spend more time in the great outdoors, keep the following tips in mind to stay safe this summer:

  • Practice sun safety: Spending more time outdoors means more time under the sun. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and avoid direct sunlight during the middle of the day when the UV rays are the strongest. Reapply sunscreen every few hours, more often if you are swimming.

  • Stay hydrated: Being outside in the heat or being physically active requires that we have to drink more water. Be sure to pack enough water if you are heading outside and watch for any signs of dehydration.

  • Keep food safe outdoors: Keep an eye on food when you are outdoors. Food needs to be kept at proper temperatures. Refrigerate any leftovers immediately after eating. When grilling use separate uncooked and cooked foods and use clean utensils when taking cooked food off the grill.

  • Water safety: Supervise children when they are in the water and stay within an arm’s reach of young children or new/inexperienced swimmers. Always swim in pairs, even with experienced swimmers. When boating, everyone should wear a properly fitting lifejacket approved by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Enjoying summer with friends and family starts by keeping everyone safe and healthy!
